“Deliberation” is a digital piece
made by Spain artist, Mario Sanchez Nevado in 2012. It shows a girl faced
sideways, burying her head in her hands and she it is in black and white. Parts
of her body seems to be cracked and seeping an orange-ish color that seems to
imitate fire. Her head looks like it is exploding and bursting out strings of
black. The background is mostly plain with the exception of cracks near the
body, and the head explosion pieces. Lastly, there are small blasts of reds and
black dots here and there, all near or on her body.
The majority of the artwork is
black and white. The focus on the piece is somewhat loud, however, not
overcrowded. The two colors, orange and red, make it pop out and the cracks in
her skin give it dimension. The direction of the girl is facing sideways and
that is constant with the rest of her body and the details on her head
explosion. I would not say that there is much repetition; however, I do see
rhythm with how all of the shapes and colors work well together and flow. There
is a lot of fine detail, which enhances its quality in my opinion.
I believe that this piece has
a whole lot of deep meaning to it. For one, the name of the artwork is called “Deliberation”
which is contemplation or deep in thought. Her mind is exploding and her body
is cracking and releasing fire. This tells me that she is more than likely deep
in thought, and whatever she is thinking about must be tearing her apart. It
can even be a very hard decision that puts her into a dilemma. Dilemma has
often put a lot of stress on an individual. The shattered pieces In the blank
background can symbolize the emotional trauma that whatever is going through
her head is putting her through. In addition, I believe that if you pay close
attention to its aesthetic detail, this piece can reflect on oneself and make
us rethink certain decisions or conflicts and how they affected us mentally.
I
personally love this piece because of its deep meaning. Any form of art with
deep meaning is something that I would instantly enjoy. This piece captures
surrealism and makes you think. I love how I can relate to it in a sense.
Making decisions is the hardest thing for me, and it usually tears me apart on
the inside, making it seem as if my head will explode. Along with the meaning,
I love the way it was made. With all the colors and how the black and white
contrasts with the bright orange which makes it pop out. I love how there is
not much going on in the background which puts more focus on what is happening.
It is not too loud and not too minimalist.Overall, I enjoyed this piece.
